B4 Flashcards
What is a plants source of energy?
light
What is photosynthesis
the process by which plants and some other organisms convert light energy into chemical energy in the form of glucose.
Why is photosynthesis an example of an endothermic reaction?
because it takes in energy
Where does photosynthesis take place?
the leaves of a plant
What sort of reaction is photosynthesis?
endothermic because it takes in energy
What is the green chemical on the plant of a leaf and what does it do?
Chlorophyll
absorbs light energy
word equation for photosynthesis?
light
carbon dioxide + water -»>glucose +
oxygen. chlorophyll
Chemical formula for photosynthesis?
C02 + H20 —> C6H12O6 + O2
what factor causes the rate of photosynthesis to increase?
the more light intensity, the faster the rate of photosynthesis
However there will be a point where the rate of photosynthesis no longer increases, which is caused by carbon dioxide in the air, temperature for example
3 uses of glucose?
release energy in respiration in mitochondria
To produce starch
To produce amino acids to synthesis proteins
Why do farmers use greenhouses if they want to increase the rate of photosynthesis?
Because they can use greenhouses to increase the light and heat and also add extra carbon dioxide
However can be expensive
Cellular respiration?
a process which supplies us energy
What sort of reaction is respiration?
an exothermic reaction because it releases energy
3 reasons humans need energy?
movement
to keep warm
to build larger molecules
when does aerobic respiration increase?
when the body needs more energy e.g. exercise
