B4 Community Level Systems Flashcards
What is a habitat?
A place where plants animals and micro organisms live
What is abiotic?
Nonliving elements of an ecosystem such as climate temperature, water and soil type
What is population?
All the members of a single species that live in a particular habitat
What is community?
All the organisms that live in a habitat plants and animals
What is an ecosystem?
The living organisms in a particular area together with nonliving components of the environment
What is biotic?
Living elements of an ecosystem, such as plants and animals
Examples of biotic factors
Bacteria, fungi, plants, animals, protists
Examples of abiotic factors
Air soil, temperature, light, water, minerals, P H, Humidity
How does an increase in temperature affect organisms?
Chemical reactions happen faster, so metabolic reaction, speed up may also become denatured at a certain point
What is predation?
A biological interaction where a predator feeds on its prey
What is interdependence?
All organisms that live in an ecosystem depend upon each other for food, protection, shelter in order to survive
What are trophic levels?
The feeding positions in the food chain energy is transferred from one level to the next along the food chain
Other than plants what can be producers?
Deep sea vent, chemotrophic, bacteria, photosynthetic, bacteria, algae
What is parasitism?
Well, one organism benefits, but the other is harmed by the relationship
An example of parasitism
Tapeworm
