B5-HOMEOSTASIS AND RESPONSE Flashcards

1
Q

what is homeostasis?

what are the 3 things in the body that homeostasis maintains optimal conditions for cell functions etc and what may it involve?

A

-Homeostasis the regulation of the conditions inside your body and cells to maintain a stable internal environment in response to changes in both internal and external conditions
- Blood glucose concentration, water levels and body temperature. These automatic control systems may involve nervous response/chemical

Q

What are the three things automatic control systems are made of?

A

-Receptors are cells who detect stimuli (change in the environment)
-Coordination centres (brain.spinal cord and pancreas) that receive and process info from receptors
-Effectors are muscles or glands which bring about responses which restore optimum levels
