Q

What do new drugs have to go through before they can be used by doctors?

A
  • Drugs are first tested in a lab using cell tissues and living animals.
  • They are then tested in clinical trials using healthy volunteers and patiens - initially using small doses.
  • If no side effects are seen then further trials are used to find the optimum dose for the drug.
