- Meant to be attended by the majority of children
Hauptschule,realschule, gymnasium aim

Hauptschulabschluss: (2pts)
- more and more kids are finishing the hauptschule
2. but the value of the degree in the Arbeitsmarkt is going down
Realschule, Hamberguer Abkommen
gegrundet in 1964
(tradition is as old as gymnasium and volkschule
originally meant to focus on ‘real’ subjects like: math, science, history, geography
in practice it has bwcome more similar to gymnasium
Realscshulabschluss:
- compulsory 10 years
- most people end up switching to a dual system of practical teaching and teilzeitberufschule
- mostly use the Fachlehrerprinzip
Realschule, wahlpflicht
extra courses in the following areas (bw 7th-9th grade): third lang, math/science social/economical social science social paedogogik
- after 10th year they have option to switch to a gymnaium (esp kids who chose a lang to learn)
Gesamtschule:
- gegrundet in the early 1970s in all states of the BRD
- idea: all kids study in one type of school
- many arguments exist that this system is better
Gesamtschule FOR arguments:
- dividing kids in groups at a young age is problematic, 10 is too early to classify what kind of school a child should go in
- if falsely classified, it’s difficult to correct the mistake
- gegliederte system does nothing for the people who arent hochqualifiziert anyway
- gives the opportunity to optimally utilize everybody’s talent
- early division increases social disparities
Actual start of gesamtschule
- in the 1960s in berlin, based on the us highschool sytstem and the uk comprehensive school system
- still differentiated from the ‘socialistic’ conccept of the DDR and french, italian and greek systems
Empfehlung of the deutschebildungsrat for the Gesamtschulen:
- in 1969, suggested building of 40 as trial
- intro of concept of ‘cooperative’ and ‘integrated’ gesamtschule (half and full day variants)
- integrated: instead of gliederung, diverse unterrichtsorgas
- cooperative: combining of the 3 traditional school forms
Besonderheiten of the gesamtschule (3pts)
- although not very successful, the sitzenbleibeen and widerholer numbers are below traditional gegliederten system
- usually very big, so differentiation within the gschool possible
durchschnittsalter of the teaching staff sign lower than trad school
gymnasium
- vor mehr als 200 j gegrundet
- word from greek gymnasion
early only the humanities could get an abitur - aim was to regulat access to uni
- subjects of central bedeutung: math, german, latin, greek
- the ‘real’ like sciences, modeern fremsprachen were underrepresented
