1st Amendment
Freedom of religion, speech, and press.
2nd Amendment
Right to Bear arms
3rd Amendment
Prohibits quartering of soldiers
4th Amendment
Search and arrest, can’t use evidence in court that was obtained without a warrant
5th Amendment
Rights in criminal cases- right to an attorney, double jeopardy, and the right to protect oneself to avoid self-incrimination
6th Amendment
Right to a fair, speedy, public trial with an impartial jury. criminal cases need an indictment by a grand jury
7th Amendment
Rights in Civil cases (Jury of peers)
8th Amendment
Protection against excessive bail and cruel and unusual punishment
9th Amendment
Rights retained by the people- understanding that people have more rights and are not limited to the rights exclusively listed in the constitution
10th Amendment
States rights- if the power is not granted to the federal government or prohibited in the states, it is for the states to decide
