Q

3: When cold, do the vessels vasoconstrict or vasodilate?

A

When cold, it would be a waste to vasodilate because blood would be carried to the body’s surface and therefore, the heat would dissipate. If blood vasoconstricts, this keeps blood near the body’s warmer core.

Q

3: What is the amino acid found in keratin and how would it be affected by an alkali treatment? (a treatment that breaks disulfide bonds)

A

Cysteine. The alkalis reduce and thus break the existing disulfide bonds between cysteine residues. Thus, someone with curlier hair has more bonds and a keratin treatment would relax the hair by breaking the many bonds.
