Q

3 components of Biodiversity

A

Species diversity: the number of different species and the number of individuals of each species

Genetic diversity: this refers to the genetic variation between members of a species. The variation of alleles within a species (or a population of a species)

Ecosystem diversity: the range of different habitats within a particular area. The more different habitats there are the greater the species diversity.

Q

Biodiversity of hotspots

A
  • Biodiversity hotspots are areas of major biodiversity
  • Found in tropics
  • Due to high light intensity all year so high rate of photosynthesis = more different food
