Q

Why is glucose used in respiration

A

This transfers energy from glucose which enables the plant to convert the rest of the glucose into various other useful substances

Q

Why is glucose used in making amino acids

A

Glucose is combined with nitrate ions (absorbed from the soil) to make amino acids, which are then made into proteins

Q

Why is glucose used in stored as starch

A

Glucose is turned into starch and stored in roots, stems and leaves for use when photosynthesis isn’t happening, like in the winter

Q

Why is starch stored and not glucose

A

Starch is insoluble which makes it better for storing as a cell with lots of glucose would draw in loads of water and swell up

Q

How is light a limiting factor

A

At night when’s there’s no light it can effect the rate as it provides the energy needed

Q

How is temperature a limiting factor

A

In winter the cold temperatures can effect the rate as if it’s too low the enzymes needed might work more slowly. However if it’s too hot it can denature the enzymes

Q

How is the amount of carbon dioxide a limiting factor

A

Even if you have the right temperature and right amount of light the amount of co2 can still effect the rate.

15
Q

How is the amount of chlorophyll a limiting factor

A

If a disease, lack of nutrient or stress damage the chloroplasts not as much chlorophyll will be made meaning the rate is reduced as they can’t absorb as much light
