Q

What are water molecules made of and why are the polar?

A

They are made of 2 hydrogens and 1 oxygen. It is polar because oxygen is slightly negatively charged and hydrogen is slightly positively charged.

Q

How does high heat capacity in water help evolution?

A

Specific heat capacity is the amount of heat 1g of a substance must absorb or lose to change its temperature by 1^oC.
Water’s high heat capacity takes a long time to heat and cool. This is why land cools faster than the sea which helped underwater marine life to evolve.
