Biology π³ Flashcards
What are producers?
Producers: plants use photosynthesis to turn light energy into glucose.
What are primary consumers?
Any organism that eats producers.
What are secondary consumers?
Any organism that eats primary consumers.
What are tertiary consumers?
Any organism that eats secondary consumers.
What are decomposers?
Organisms that break down the bodies of organisms so the nutrients can be reused.
Define biomass?
The mass of all the organisms and living matter in a specific area.
What is prey.
And creature that is hunted.
What is a predator?
Anything that hunts.
What is the chemical formula for photosynthesis?
Carbon dioxide + Water -> Glucose + Oxygen
What is the difference between a food web and a food chain?
A food web is multiple energy paths through trophic levels and a food web is a single energy path through trophic levels.
What does a energy pyramid show?
Energy pyramids show how much energy is at each trophic level. 10% of energy is passed on.
What does a biomass pyramid show?
The mass of each of each organism at each trophic level.
That does a pyramid of numbers show.
How many organisms are at each level.
What is a limiting factor.
Anything that prevents a population form growing.
What is carrying capacity?
The number of organisms that can live at any trophic level.
