Biomechanical principles Flashcards
Net force
the sum of all the forces acting on a body.
Internal force
comes from inside the body and is generated by skeletal muscles
External force
comes from outside the body.
Vertical force 1
weight - gravitational force that the earth exerts on the body measured in (n)
weight = mass x acceleration
Vertical force 2
reaction force - the equal and opposite force exerted by a body in response to the action force acted on it.
Horizontal force 1
frictional force
static - dry friction acting between two stationary surfaces
sliding - the resistance created by two objects sliding against each other.
Horizontal force 2
air resistance - a force that acts in the opposite direction of the motion of a body travelling through the air (n)
Factors affecting air resistance
- velocity of object
- cross sectional area
- shape and surface characteristics of the body.
