Body Movement Terminology Flashcards
These terms are used to describe movements related to the limbs
Are often used in positioning descriptions and in the patient requisition provided to the radtech by the referring physician
Body movement terminology
Movement of a part away from the central axis of the body or body part
Abduct or abduction
Movement of part toward the central axis of the body or body part
Adduct or adduction
Straightening of a joint
Extension
Act of bending a joint; the opposite of extension
Flexion
Forced over flexion of a limbs or joints
Hyperflexion
Forced or excessive extension of limbs or joints
Hyperextension
Outward turning of the foot at the ankle
Evert/eversion
Inward turning of the foot at the ankle
Invert/inversion
Rotation of the forearm so that the palm of hand is down
Pronate/pronation
Rotation of the forearm so that the palm of the hand is up
Supinate/supination
Circular movement of a limb
Circumduction
Tipping or slanting a body part slightly
Tilt
Turning away from the regular standard of course
Deviation
Turning or rotating of the body or a body around its axis
Rotate/rotation
