C6-making useful chemicals Flashcards
acid + metal
salt + hydrogen
acid + metal oxide
salt + water
acid + metal carbonate
salt + water + carbon dioxide
what is the ph of a solution?
a measure of the concentration of the hydrogen in that solution.
what do weak acids produce?
-hydrogen ions to lesser extent when dissolved in water
-ethanoic, carboxylic acids
what does the concentration refer to?
-amount of substance in moles in a given volume.
0-1
1-0.1
2-0.01
3-0.001
etc.
factors that affect the rate of chemical reactions.
-concentration
-surface area
-temperature
-pressure
-catalysts
what is the collision theory?
when molecules collide, some bonds break while new bonds form, creating new molecules.
what are biocatalysts?
-enzymes produced by microorganisms (green chemistry)
-energy demand is lower
how can u produce ethanol?
-fermentation
-biotechnology
-chemical synthesis
how to work out the average rate of reaction?
volume of hydrogen produced
———————————————
time
what does is mean if a reversible reaction is at an equilibrium?
neither the forward nor the backward reaction is complete.
what is dynamic equilibrium?
when both forward and backward reactions continue, but there’s no overall change because it’s loosing and gaining at the same rate.
what is the le chateliers principle?
when the conditions change, an equilibrium mixture of chemicals responds in a way that tends to counteract change.
what is the haber process?
-ammonia produced on an industrial scale by the reaction of nitrogen and hydrogen gas.
-pressure between 150-300
-temperature between 400-450
-an iron catalyst
