Capacitance Flashcards

1
Q

What is capacitance, and what unit is it?

A

The capacitance is the ability of a capacitor to store charge, per unit potential difference.

C = QV

its unit is the farad where 1F = 1C/V

Q

What factors affect capacitance?

A

as the area overlap increases, so does the capacitance.
as the distance between the capacitors increase, the capacitance decreases.
The larger the permittivity of the insulating material between the plates, the larger the capacitance is.

Q

What is permittivity and what is the dielectric constant?

A

The resistance of a material to an electric field passing through it.

The dielectric constant describes the relative resistance of a material to the propagation of an electric field through it.
