Cardiac emergency Flashcards
Myocardial Infarction
Basically means heart attack
Infarction - means death
Coronary arteries
Supplies blood to heart muscles or tissues
Two things that can cause a MI
1.blockage or clot in coronary arteries
2. vasoconstriction
both result in blockage of blood in the coronary arteries, preventing them from getting into the heart
Atherosclerosis
Primary risk factor of having a heart attack
Cholesterol builds up and forms plaque inside blood vessel walls, obstructs blood flow and leads to a blockage
Arteriosclerosis
Primary risk factor of having a heart attack
Thickening of arterial walls, causing loss of elasticity
Acute coronary syndrome (ACS)
Something is happening to your heart at this moment
Group of symptoms that cause ischemia which
Acute myocardial infarction
Could develop from ACS
Basically means heart muscle death
Stable vs unstable angina
Angina: pending of if its stable or unstable
Stable: temporary chest pain that is relieved by nitroglycerin or rest
Unstable: Chest pain that persists even with rest
Vasospasm occlusion (prinzmetal angina)
Coronary artery clamping down and not allowing any blood or oxygen to that part of the body
STEMI
Way to classify heart attacks
EKG shows MI
N-STEMI (non stemi)
Blood
