Chest work, rate and effort, heaves
Chest deformaties and tracheal position

What is a nl finding for rate depth and effort of breathing
No increase in rate effort or depth
What should we note on exam on chest as far as deformaties go?
Is trachea midline? Pectus carinatum or excavatum?
What are the components of the pulmonary palpation exam?
Percussion
Excursion of the ribs, lateral/posterior
Fremitus, Tactile
Tenderness
P.E.F.T.
What are the components of the cardio palpatory exam?
PMI
Anterior Chest wall (thrills/heaves)
Pulses (carotid, radial, dorsalis pedis, tibialis posterior) Bilaterally
P.A.P.
What are the components of the ausculatory exam for pulmonary/chest?
Breath Sounds (3 posterior/bilat., 2 anterior/bilat, 2 lateral/bilat)
Special Tests - (Egophony - eee; Bronchophony - “99”, Whispered pectoriloquy
B.S.
What are the components of auscultation in the chest exam?
5 posts (Aortic, Pulmonic, Erbs, Tricuspid, Mitral) Use both bell **AND **diaphragm.

What is important to have the patient do during lung auscultation?
Breathe with mouth open.
What is important to remember when auscultating the carotid?
How about when palpating?
When auscultating, have patient hold breath.
Before palpation listen for bruit, just in case palpation were to dislodge something an lead to a CVA.
