What are the wave forms of JVP?

A

Wave forms are reflective of RA pressure
A and V are positive deflections
X and Y are negative deflections
A - atrial systole
V - passive filling of atria when tricuspid valve is closed during systole.

Why do the hepatojugular reflex?

A

Exerting pressure on the right hypochondrium. Increased return of blood from abdomen to the RA. RA not able to clear the increased venous return from liver, therefore rises.
