A

Bovine respiratory diseases - vaccination, minimal stress + handling, good nutrition + ventilation
Mastitis - good milking hygiene, regular udder checks
Foot and mouth disease - biosecurity measures, vaccination, reporting suspected cases

Dairy heifer life cycle

A
  1. after birth calf stays with cow for 24-72 hours to receive colostrum
  2. removed from mother and fed milk for 6-12 weeks
  3. weaned at 10-12 weeks
  4. served at 15-20 months
  5. calve after 9 months gestation
    6 begin to lactate and enter dairy herd
