cells Flashcards
What are Cells?
Cells are the basic unit of life.
What are unicellular organism made up of?
A unicellular organism is made up of only one cell.
What is a multicellular organism made up of?
A multicellular organism is made up of more than one cell.
What is the formula of viewing a cell through a microscope?
Eyepiece lens x Objective lens = Total magnification
What do animal cells have?
Animal cells have a nucleus, cytoplasm and cell membrane.
What do plant cells have?
Plant cells have a nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane AND a cell wall, chloroplast and a vacuole
What does the nucleus do?
The nucleus controls the cell’s activities as this is where genetic information
(DNA) is found.
What is cytoplasm?
Cytoplasm is the site of most chemical reactions
What does the cell membrane do?
The cell membrane controls what substances enter and leave the cell
What does the cell wall in a plant cell do?
The cell wall in plant cells gives the cell support and shape
What does the chloroplast in a plant cell the site of?
Chloroplasts in plant cells are the site of photosynthesis
what does the central vacuole in a plant cell contain?
Central vacuole in plant cells contains cell sap (salts and sugars)
What does a stain do?
A stain allows cells and the structures inside cells, such as the nucleus, to be easily
seen using a microscope.
what is an organism?
An organism is a living thing, made up of organ systems which are made up of organs which are made up of tissues which are made up of cells.
What is digestion?
Digestion is the breakdown of large insoluble molecules of food into small
soluble ones that can easily be absorbed.
