Cells Flashcards
Animal and plant cells are…
Eukaryotic
Bacterial cells are…
Prokaryotic
Cell Membrane
Present in all cells. Control which substances leave and enter a cell
Cell wall
Present in plant and bacterial cells. Strengthens and supports the structure of the cell.
Nucleus
Present in Eukaryotic cells. Controls the activities of the cell and contains genetic material.
DNA strand
Present in prokaryotic organisms. DNA not contained in complex chromosomes but in a strand.
Mitochondria
In Eukaryotic cells. Where respiration occurs.
Ribosomes
Present in all cells. Where proteins are made.
Cytoplasm
Present in all cells. Where chemical reactions take place.
Chloroplast
Only in plant cells. Absorb light energy to make glucose.
Vacuole
Only in plant cells. Filled with cell sap to keep the cell turgid.
Plasmids
Only in bacterial cells. Small sections of DNA which provide genetic variation for bacteria. Can be passed between bacteria.
