15
Q

How to tell the difference between a Nautiloid and Ammonoids?

A

Position of the siphuncle

For a nautiloid: siphuncle ran through the middle of the septa, the chamber walls.

For Ammonoid: ventral siphuncle (meaning it is at the side of the chamber)

Q

Purpose of a siphuncle

A

Is a tube that allows an animal to pump water or gas in, to allow the animal to raise or lower itself in the water.

17
Q

Basic morphology of a gonotites

A

-Zig-Zag structure
-Usually small
-Bullbous
-Plain (lacking ornament).
