Cerebellum Flashcards
Describe Anatomy of Cerebellar Cortex
Interneuron Layer –> Purkinje Cell Bodies Layer –> Interneuron Layer –> White Matter –> Deep Cerebellar Nuclei
Describe what area of cerebellum controls what area of body/ what type of movement in general
Paravermis/Vermis (Spinocerebellum): Midline Muscles, gross movements of limbs Lateral Hemispheres (Cerebrocerebellum): Distal Extremities, Fine/distal movements Flocculonodular Lobes (Vestibulocerebellum): Vistibular system, eye movements
Lateral Hemispheres of Cerebellum
Involved in planning movements
Especially learned, skillful movements that become more automatic and precise with practice
Paravermal Region (Intermediate Zone) of Cerebellum
Can influence LMNs via that CST and RuST
Compares actual movement with intended movement
Vermis of Cerebellum
Makes Postural Adjustments
Major outputs to the vestibular organs and reticular formation
Controls and adjusts antigravity postural corrections and postural muscle tone
Midline damage to Cerebellum –>
Postural Instability
Lateral damage to Cerebellum –>
Limb ataxia
Folcculonodular damage to Cerebellum –>
Eye movements affected
