Julius Caesar was a very powerful man, due to his popularity. Due to this, the Senate made him a Dictator. His becoming a dictator made the fall of a republic, and the rise of a dictatorship.

What role did Julius Caesar play in the rise of the empire
The rise of the Empire was due to his death by the senate, causing a civil war to break out in Rome. The outcome had three people as rulers, or an oligarchy. Then, those three people were shortened to one important person, who spread his reach to a large amount of Europe. That was the beginning of the empire.
