ch.6 test Flashcards
what are the three basic muscle types
skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle, smooth muscle
are elongated muscles
skeletal and smooth
contraction and shortening of muscles are due to
the movement of microfilaments
prefixes myo and mys refers to
muscle
prefixes sacro refers to
flesh
attached to bones or, for some facial muscles, to skin
skeletal
walls of the heart
cardiac
walls of the hallow organs (other than the heart)
smooth
the muscle fibers are attached by tendons to bones; are large, cigar-shaped, and multinucleate, also known as straighted muscle because of its obvious stripes, also known as voluntary muscle because it is the only muscle tissue subject to conscious control
Skeletal muscle
Skeletal muscle cells are surrounded and bundled by connective tissue
Endomysium, perimysium, epimysium
Encloses a single muscle fiber
Endomysium
Wraps around a fascicle (bundle) of muscle fibers
Perimysium
Covers the entire skeletal muscle
Epimysum
On the outside of the epimysium
Fascia
Blends into a connective tissue attachment
The epimysium
