A

During the 1960s many young people rejected their parent’s lifestyles and values

> some people dropped out of conventional society and became hippies

  • wore ethnic clothing and long hair
  • engaged in free love and took LSD and marijuana recreationally

> opposed the Vietnam war and wore flowers in their hair as a sign of peace
-‘ make love not war’ became a popular slogan

> height of hippy movement was the August 1969 Woodstock rock concert attended by 500,000 hippies
- bands such as the Grateful Dead and the Doors exerted a powerful influence
