Q

what are the three states of matter & the processes that change a substance from one state to another?

A

solid , liquid , gas. liquid is water at room temperature , solid is water at below freezing temperatures, and gas is formed when molecules are heated up and broken

Q

what about waters density , heat capacity , latent heats, and properties as a solvent?

A

ice is less dense then liquid water , because the molecules take up more space when in a solid crystal form (ice floats in water). water has one of the highest heat capacities (the molecules are hard to break). ice absorbs lots of heat as it melts (w high temps)

Q

what is the rule of constant proportions?

A

the proportions of all the different solutes in sea water remain constant no matter the total salinity. while the ratio of NaCl may change , the ratio between the two will stay the same
