- Most strongly emphasized syllable shown in bold with all caps.
- syllables with secondary emphasis in bold but without caps.

How to analyze med terms
A
• start with the suffix • next look for the prefix -not all words have a prefix • last step is the the root -not all words have a root • only a prefix and suffix - somewhere to have two roots

Combining vowel
A
• always a vowel
- used to combine two roots
- used to combine a route in the suffix when the suffix begins with a consonant
- only purpose is to aid in pronunciation

- route plus a good combining vowel
- written as “route\combining vowel”
- written with slash to indicate the combining vowel may or may not be used in medical term.
- combining forms are often easier to pronounce then root alone.
