Chapter 10- Vocabulary Flashcards
Center
The given point from which all points on a circle are the same distance
Base
In a power, the number used as a factor. In 103⃣, the base is 10. That is, 103⃣=10x10x10
Chord
A segment with end points that are on a circle
Circle
The set of all points in a plane that are the same distance from a given point called the center
Circumference
The distance around a circle
Diameter
The distance across a circle through its center
Height
The shortest distance from the base of a parallelogram to its opposite sides
Net
A two dimensional figure that can be used to build a three dimensional figure
Perimeter
The distanced around any geometric shape
Radius
The distance from the center of a circle to any point on a circle
Rectangular prism
A three dimensional figure that has two parallel and congruent bases in the shape of polygons and at least three lateral faces like rectangles. The shape of the bases tell the name of a prism
Surface area
The sum of the areas of all surfaces, of a three dimensional figure
Volume
The amount of space that a three dimensional figure contains
