Chapter 13. Brain protection Flashcards
What are cranial meninges
3 connectives tissue membranes
Dura mater
arachnoid mater
pia mater
What is the dura matter cranial meninge?
Outer, thick layer that divides into 2: periosteal and meningeal
what is the arachnoid mater cranial meninge?
the middle layer: thin web like membrane
what is the pia mater cranial meninge?
the thinnest layer attached to the brain
What are the two spaces that contain CSF and help protect the brain called?
Subdural space - small space between the dura mater and arachnoid mater
Subarachnoid space - larger space between the arachnoid mater and pia matter
How does CSF form?
It forms through choroid plexuses in parts of walls of all 4 ventricles; includes blood capillaries and ependymal cells where most of the CSF is formed
