How was the term art used in the Middle Ages?
A
The same as craft; forging a sword, painting a picture, cobbling a shoe, and carving a cabinet were all called art

A
During the 1500’s, painting, sculpture, and architecture were considered more elevated forms of art. The term art was then used almost exclusively with them.
