Q

How does skin act as a natural barrier?

Q

Describe inflammatory response

A
  • pathogen enters body
  • capillaries become leaky
  • infected area becomes swollen
  • phagocytes can squeeze through leaky capillary walls
  • area red due to increased blood flow

Q

Describe Phagocytosis

A
  • phagocyte attracted by chemicals pathogen produces
  • cell surface membrane invaginates engulfing it
  • forms vesicle called phagosome
  • lysosomes move toward vesicle
  • hydrolytic enzymes hydrolyse the pathogen
  • soluble digested products absorbed into cytplasm of phagocyte
