6
Q

How does polarity help the solvent?

A

Well polarity makes water a good solvent for ionic compounds or polar covalent molecules.

7
Q

What is a polar molecule?

A

The negatively charged oxygen end of the molecule is highly attracted to the positive ion in ionic compounds. This attraction permits the positive and negative ions to be pulled apart and dissolved in water.

The same attraction happens with the negative ion and the positive hydrogen end of the water molecule.

Q

What is Transpiration?

A

It is when water can travel from the roots of a tree up to its leaves against the force of gravity.

17
Q

What is Specific Heat Capacity?

A

The amount of heat energy (J) required to charge the temperature of 1 g of substance by 1 degrees.

18
Q

How do plants get water?

A

Through their roots.

19
Q

How do plants lose water?

A

Through transpiration.
