Chapter 3 Flashcards
Loads
A force, or system of forces carried by a structure or part of a structure
Dead load
A force that is constant over time and not capable of moving or being moved
Live load
A force that is not constant over time and is capable of moving or being moved
Tributary area
The rectangular area that extends from the beam a distance to the centerline of the slab
Point load
A load which is localized to a special location on a structure
Loads
Snow Earth Water Wind Earthquake
Fixed base/ basic resistant structure
Structure divided into rigid structure that is to build ridged structured buildings to prevent collapse
Damping/ vibration control structure
Large dampens isolate the ground by placing walls that absorb energy within the building
Viscous Friction Yielding
Seismic isolation / isolated structure
Places quick absorbing devices (isolated, laminated rubber that block seismic motion from the building)
