Chapter 3: The Rational Unconscious Flashcards
Why is it better to assume that our reasons may be influenced by triggers that we don’t even know of?
So that we will have healthy skepticism about our motivations and be less likely to do something that’s not in our self interest.
Why is it important to know that others are equally influenced by their triggers than me?
Because we have a tendency to think other people reasons are solid, when they are just as likely to be influenced by their triggers.
What are the 2 junctures that consciousness can help in the creative process?
- Consciousness is essential in
identifying the elements of the problem.
Producing rough sketches of solution.
So working on the issue for 2 hours will cause your mind to work for 24hrs
- Consciousness necessary for checking and elaborating on conclusions by the unconscious.
So a sudden insight to the problem could be a results of hundreds of hours.
Why should we not assume that we know how and why we think or do?
We don’t know what were the triggers
And we can’t identify the tigger even when it’s really the trigger.
