Q

What is a multispeed autosensing NIC?

A

A NIC that can negotiate a signalling speed before the start of the communication. Today, virtually all NIC are multispeed and autosensing. It the good old time, these devices were refered as 10/100/1000 NIC.

Q

What is a GBIC?

A

A GBIC (Gigabit Interface Converter) is a transceiver module used in networking to provide a modular interface for various types of optical or electrical connections in network devices, such as switches and routers. GBICs enable the flexibility to connect different types of media, such as fiber optic or copper, by simply replacing the GBIC module.

GBICs support different data rates and communication distances, making them versatile components in networking equipment. They are often used for Gigabit Ethernet and Fibre Channel connections. As technology has advanced, GBICs have been largely replaced by smaller form-factor pluggable (SFP) modules in modern networking equipment.

The modular nature of GBICs allows network administrators to adapt their network infrastructure by swapping out GBICs without the need to replace entire networking devices, providing cost-effective and scalable solutions.

17
Q

What does SONET stands for?

A

Synchroneous Optical Network (SONET).

18
Q

What are the 2 fiber based multimode 10GbE?

A

10GBaseSR (LAN) and 10GBaseSW (SONET). Supports 26-300m length.

19
Q

What are the 2 fiber based 1310nm 10 GbE?

A

10GBaseLR (LAN) and 10GBaseLW (SONET). Support 10 km length.

20
Q

What are the 2 fiber based 1550nm 10 GbE?

A

10GBaseER (LAN) and 10GBaseEW (SONET). Support 40 km length.

21

What device should you use to have a full duplex connection on a single fiber?

A

BiDi.
