Q

How are sedimentary rocks formed?

A

Sedimentary rocks were formed when existing rocks, plant and animal life were won down and compressed to form new rocks. This mainly happens underwater.

Q

What is granite?

A

Granite is a coarse-grained rock of different colours(white, grey, black. Granite was formed when magma cooled beneath the surface of the earth. Because it cooled slowly large crystals were formed. The large crystals can be clearly seen.

Q

What is limestone?

A

Limestone was formed from the shells and bones of fish that are laid down in layers at the bottom of the sea. Pressure from these layers formed limestone. The remains of fish bones and shells are preserved as fossils in limestone.
