Business Intelligence
The use of information systems to gather and analyze the data and information from internal and external sources in order to make better businesses decisions.
Big Data
Typically characterized by being high volume, variety and velocity.
Structured Data
Such as transaction data, which fits neatly into a spreadsheet
Semi Structured Data
Such as clickstreams and sensor data
Unstructured Data
Such as studio and video data
Continuous Planning Process
Organizations continuously monitor and analyze data business processes which lead to ongoing adjustments to how the organization is managed, but these results are also reflected in ongoing updates to the organizational plans.
Databases
Databases are collections of related data organized in a way that facilitates data searches.
Data Model
what data will be in data base and how it will be represented
Data Type
each attribute has a specified data type (e.g., text, numbers, or dates)
Data Dictionary
A document explaining several pieces of information for each tribute, such as its name, the type of data expected, and valid value.
Business Rules
prevent illegal or illogical entries from entering the database
Form
A form typically has blanks where the user can enter information or make choices, each of which represents an attribute within a database record(such as a users first name, last name, gender, etc).
Reports
Is a compilation of data from the database that is organized and produced in printed format (either electronic or paper).
Report Generator
Helps users quickly build interactive reports and visualizations to present the data in useful form.
Query
A command for retrieving specified information from a database.
Structured Query Language (SQL):
the most common language for querying databases with RDBMS.
