interaction typically happen only during similar scenarios, and therefore only have perceptions of the outgroup based on that scenario

we look for characteristics that make us unique, all characteristics of an outgroup make us feel different, so we don’t look too closely

they are often biased to what the perception of the outgroup is. common perception of blacks is that they are lawbreakers and dangerous members of society. jurors should only accept the testimony if there is other supporting evidence that the black individual is truly the thief
