Social structure theory
Antisocial behavior is direct result of destructive social forces on human behavior, not individual traits
Stratified society
People grouped according to economic or social class; strata is characterized by unequal distribution of wealth,power, and prestige
Social classes
Segments of the population whose members are at a relatively similar economic level and who share attitudes, values, norms and identifiably lifestyles
Poverty & crime
Root cause of crime can be traced directly to the socioeconomic disadvantages that have become embedded in American society
Social disorganization theory
Focused on the breakdown in inner city neighborhoods of institutions such as the family,school and employment
Collective efficacy
Social control exhorted by cohesive communities and based on mutual trust including in the supervision of children maintenance of public order
Strain theory
The anger, frustration and resentment experienced by people who believe they cannot achieve their goals through legitimate means
Cultural deviance theory
Strain and social disorganization together resulting in a unique lower-class that conflicts with conventional social norms
Social process theory
The view that criminology is a function of people’s interactions with various organizations,institutions and process in society
Socialization
Interaction with key social institutions help control human behavior
-family,peer groups, school, church
Violence &abuse

Poor academic achievement increased criminality
