Q

What is compact bone?

A

It is mainly made up of long, straight cylinders called osteons which include central canal with blood vessels and nerves, concentric lamellae (bony matrix layers around the central canal), lacunae (spaces at lamellae borders), canaliculi (small canals), osteocytes.

Outside osteons are circumferential (around bone circumference) and interstitial (between osteons) lamellae).
