Q

Two Fundamental Properties of DNA Polymerase.

A
  1. All polymerases synthesize DNA in the 5’ to 3’ direction, adding a dNTP to the 3’ hydroxyl group of the growing chain.

Q

Two Fundamental Properties of DNA Polymerase.

A
  1. All polymerases synthesize DNA in the 5’ to 3’ direction, adding a dNTP to the 3’ hydroxyl group of the growing chain.
  2. DNA polymerases can add new deoxyribonucleotides only to a preformed primer strand that is hydrogen-bonded to the template. They can not initiate DNA synthesis de novo.
