How many bones are there in the pelvic girdle?
In a fully grown adult there is only 2 (there are 6 during development)
What are the 6 bones found during development in the pelvic girdle?
ilium, ischium, pubis (pairs of 2)
What are coxal bones/os coxae?
They are considered irregular bones by definition
What is the iliac crest of the coxal bone?
it is the superior part of the bone. It is where the tensor fasciae latae muscle attaches
What is the anterior superior iliac spine?
It is the anterior end of the iliac crest. This is where the sartorius muscle attaches
What is the greater sciatic notch?
it is a notch on the posterior side of the coxal bone
What is the ischial spine?
it is a pointed process under the greater sciatic notch
What is the ischial tuberosity?
This is the part of the coxal bone that we sit on when we are sitting down
This is also where the biceps femoris muscle attaches
What is the acetabulum socket?
Its the part of the coxal bone that attaches with the femur head
Are the bones in the pelvis generally thicker, heavier, stronger in males or females?
males
Pubic arch/angle
It is large in females 80-90 degrees
In males its 50-60 degress
Pelvic outlet
Inferior opening that is larger in females
Pelvic inlet
superior opening that is larger in females
pelvic brim
bony border of pelvic inlet. larger in females
