Preliminary study
Preliminary study is a brief study at whether or not a new system is needed
Feasibility study
Feasibility study looks at the existing system and possible alternatives to this.
Problem analysis
Problem analysis is analysing the problems of the old system and seeing how these problems can be reduced
Design
Design is the designing of how the requirements of the organisation are to be implemented
Construction
Construction is the building stage of the new system
Testing
Testing is testing the new system for faults
Module testing
This is where each part of the system is tested
Functional testing
This is testing that the outputs are correct for the given inputs
System testing
This is testing that the system meets its specified requirements
User testing
This is testing that users can use the system using real data
Operational testing
This is testing that the system can be used in its normal environment
Installation
This is the installing of the new system for use
Direct changeover
A direct switch from using the old system to using the new system
Parallel running
This is running both the old and new systems for a period of time until the new system is working correctly
Phased conversion
This is installing the new system in stages
