What is NetBIOS?
A very simple name protocol using broadcast to resolve names on a LAN.
What is SMB?
SMB (Server Message Block). It began as a protocol running over NetBIOS to share ressources over the Network. Today, it runs independently of NetBIOS over TCP port 445.
What is a name space?
A set of all admissable name for a given structure. Flat name spaces exists (shaperoint 2013) but hierarchical name space are way more common nowaday.
What is a FQDN?
A Fully Qualified Domain Name states every hierarchy within its DNS name (up to the TLD and root if applicable).
What is a DNS zone?
A zone is a container for a single domain that gets filled with records.
What are the types of DNS records?
SOA, NS, A, AAAA, MX, CNAME, SRV, TXT.
What are primary and secondary DNS zone?
A primary zone is where the DNS record are created. The secondary zone simply synch with the primary zone. You cannot enter records in a secondary zone.
