Circuits Flashcards
Whats V = IR?
Potential difference = Current X Resistance
What is current? What is it measured in?
Flow of electrons around a circuit, measured in amperes
What is potential difference? What is measured in?
Force driving flow of electrons by a cell/battery, measured in voltage
What is resistance? What is measured in?
Anything resisting flow of electrons in a circuit, measured in ohms
What is charge? What is it measured in?
Measure of current flowing in a certain time, measured in coulombs (Q)
What is J=QV
Energy = Current x voltage
What is Q = IS?
Charge = Current X time (seconds)
Give 4 things of series circuit
- 1 loop
- If anything goes wrong, circuit goes wrong
- Current equal everywhere in circuit
- Voltage shared among components (Vtotsl = V1 + V2 +V3…)
Give 4 things of parallel circuit
- More than 1 loop
- If anything breaks, everything still works
- Current shared between all loops
- Voltage across components are equal
Equipment for resistance of wire (
Ammeter, voltmeter,
Give 2 problems in the resistance of wire practical and how to solve them/why
Zero error - Measuring that should be zero (due to crocodile clip and wire on metre ruler
Heating effects - If temperature of wire increases, so does resistance - reduce by only turning on current when taking reading, turn off inbetween - reduce by using low p.d, lowering resistance
