Q

modified cardiac muscle fibers

Non-contractile
• Larger, pale staining
• Contains more glycogen than surrounding cardiomyocytes
• Also connects via gap junctions, desmosomes, fascia adherens
• Purkinje fibers→ depolarize -90 mV
(Ca+, Na+, K+) to initiate contraction. Because it contains lots of mitochondria.

4 HISTOLOGIC LAYERS OF ENDOCARDIUM

A

• Endothelium
• Subendothelium
• Dense Irregular Connective Tissue Layer
• Subendocardium

20
Q

Endothelium (Epithelial cells)

A

Simple Squamous Epithelium

21
Q

lines all the wall of heart and blood vessels.

A

Endothelium

22
Q

loose connective tissue (endocardium)

A

Subendothelium

23
Q

thickest portion of the endocardium; collagen fibers, smooth muscles, fibroblasts, elastic fibers

A

DENSE IRREGULAR CONNECTIVE
TISSUE LAYER

24
Q

loose connective tissue; contains the blood vessels & nerves, Purkinje fibers

A

Subendocardium

25
Q

Thickest histologic layer of the heart
Thickest in the left ventricle, thinnest in the atria.

A

Myocardium

26
Q

Component of Myocardium

A

Cardiac Muscle fibers

27
Q

Synonymous with the visceral pericardium

Outermost histologic layer of the heart

A

Epicardium

28
Q

Basic layers of the blood vessels

A
  1. Tunica Intima
  2. Tunica Media
  3. Tunica Adventitia
29
