reasons for citaiton

A
  • Intellectual honesty – people don’t like others seizing control of their ideas
  • Traceability – to know what data and ideas new proposals rest on, both so that it can be verified and so that it can be turned to other purposes where appropriate.
  • Shows research – helps to prove that the writer has actually done research and is familiar with what they are writing about, and that they are aware of other people’s ideas and perspectives on the topic.

A

include the author, year of publication, and page number for the reference (preceded by “p.” for a single page and “pp.” for a span of multiple pages, with the page numbers separated by an en dash).
