3
Q

describe sun spots

A

we do not always recieve the same amount of heat from the sun
the number of sun spots peak every
11 years
the greater amount in sun spots, the more heat we receive from the sun this global temps increase
sun spots activity has doubled over the last century leading to an increase in global warming

Q

tilt of the earth

A

research suggest that changes in the tilt as it orbits the sun may increase or decrease the temp on earth
- more tilt = warmer summer and colder winter
- less tilt = colder summer and warmer winter

Q

volcanic eruptions

A

gases such as sulphur dioxide realeased during volcanic eruptions block solar energy and reflect heat
this can lead to cooling of the earth
bc these particles absorb the heat energy from the sun preventing it from reaching earths surface which lowers temps

6
Q

ocean currents

A

over time ocean currents change direction and become stronger or weaker
when they do this they change the climates of places they flow past

7
Q

ice caps and ice sheets melting

A

melting ice caps result in a decrease of the earths albedo affect - how reflective the earth is which aha lead to an increase of temps in the poles

the poles now absorb heat bc of an increase in dark water
as there is less snow and ice heat is reflected back into the atmosphere which leads to climate change

Q

melting permafrost

A

large quantities of methane and carbon dioxide have been stored in permafrost for thousands of years so when it melts it all releases into the atmosphere and this an increase in global temps

Q

describe burning of fossil fuels

A

the burning fossil fuels such as coal and oil for transport and industry and power has resulted in huge amounts of Co2 being released into the atmosphere trapping heat and temps increase leading to climate change

12
Q

describe deforestation

A

deforestation has led to an increase in co2 as there are less trees to produce oxygen and take in co2 trapping heat and increasing temps leading to climate change

land fill sites

A

huge areas of land used to bury waste which releases methane when it decomposes

Q

animal manure

A

the cow releases 100kh of methane each year through belching and poo
there is at least 1.5 billon cows
therfor loads of methane is released

Q

fertiliser

A

nitrous oxide is released when people add nitrogen to soil fertilisers
soils release over half of nitrous oxide in the atmosphere 2 to 4 million tonnes a year

16
Q

car ownership increased

A

over 1 billion cars in 2011
when petrol is burned co2 is realeased trapping heat and increasing temps leading to climate change

17
Q

what are the effects of climate change

A

less snow thus negatively impacting ski slopes and resorts such as Aviemore in Scotland
- wildfires increase in places such as Western Usa and parts of australia due to a rise in temps and less precipitation
- new tourist hotspots - countries such as the uk may see more stay at home tourism resulting in economic growth
- increase in sea temps causing water to expand and compounding the flooding problem
- in tundra areas such as Alaska the permafrost layer is melting resulting in houses and buildings sinking bc the hard and stable land is now soft
- shorter periods of snow cover in tundra so a number of plant are at risk of going extinct in tundra and some species may begin to thrive
- animal habitat is lost thus a loss of species of movement to marginal areas
may bring animals in contact with humans
polar bears entering towns in Canada endangering both humans and animals

18
Q

what are the management strategies for climate change

A

Lez introduced in many cities eg Glasgow June 23 in order to lower vehicle pollution

people are encouraged to walk cycle or use public transport rather than use cards to reduce emotions and reduce global warming

bud and cycle lanes to encourage people to not use cars introduced in places like Glasgow in order to reduce ghg ellison’s and global warming

developed clountries switch from fossil fuels to alternative sources of energy in order to reduce co2 in atmosphere

people are encouraged to holiday at home to reduce air craft journeys taken to reduce co2 and climate change

world summits allow world leader to get together to strategy ways to reduce consumption of carbon based fossil fuels
eg cop 26 held in Glasgow 2021
