Q

How is a stump formed

A
  1. ) large crack opened up by hydraulic action
  2. ) the crack grows into a cave by hydraulic action and abrasion
  3. ) the cave becomes larger
  4. ) the cave breaks through the headland forming a natural arch
  5. ) the arch is eroded and collapses
  6. ) this leaves a tall rock stack
  7. ) the stack is eroded forming a STUMP

Q

State causes as to why the holdernees cost is being eroded rapidly

A
  • powerful destructive waves caused by strong wind and long fetch
  • cliffs made of soft boulder clay
  • sea defences along the coast have made the problem worse in some areas
  • eroded material is transported out to sea meaning the beaches are small

Q

What happens during longhairs drift ?

A

The wind blows towards the land at an angle . It then causes the waves to approach the beach a slight angle . As they break , the swash carries material up the beach at an angle . Gravity causes the material to be carried straight down the beach

11
Q

What are the different aspects of destructive waves ?

A
  • They have a weak swash and strong backwash - pulls the sand and pebbles off the beach
  • steep , high waves that are close together
  • come into the coast quickly
  • create a steep beach

Q

What are the aspects of constructive waves ?

A
  • They have a strong swash and weak backwash - build up the beach
  • low waves , more gently sloping with longer gap between them
  • gentle beach

Q

What are the two different types of waves ?

A
  • Destructive waves

* Constructive waves

17
Q

What is the meaning of attrition ?

A

Loose rocks are swirled around and around and worn in smaller and rounder pieces

18
Q

What is the meaning of Hydraulic Action ?

A

this is when water is forced into the cracks of the rocks , is compressed and forced the rock apart

19
Q

State some effects of the holderness coast being eroded

A
  • buildings close to the cliff face have a very high chance of falling into the sea(people will not be compensated for this)
  • loss of diversity in wildlife due to lack of sediment
  • protecting the coastline is costly (people disagree)
  • was ignition had terminal is close to the sea this supplied the country with energy
  • businesses at risk will loose money
